Hi everyone! A few months ago I decided I really wanted to do something a little different and fun to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the blog this year, so I asked a few debut authors who have February releases to come on the blog with some fun love/dating related posts!

Today Nicole Castroman, author of Blackhearts, is joining us to share a date she sends two of her characters on!

Teach spends the day with Anne

I’m going to pretend that societal constraints didn’t apply to Bristol, England in 1697. So suspend disbelief, because Teach plans to spend the entire day with Anne on an epic date.

Teach is definitely a romantic, so first, he’d take her out for an early morning ride in the countryside. They share a love of horses. He’d surprise her with a picnic breakfast of imported cheese, fruit and pastries. They’d talk about some of their favorite passages from their favorite books and maybe talk about some of their fondest memories growing up in Bristol.

By the time they returned to the estate, it would be early afternoon. They’d each bath and get cleaned up. Teach wouldn’t want to eat at home with Marjory hovering over them, so he’d take Anne on a sightseeing tour of Bristol. Together they’d walk the old streets, watching people pass by. They’d have lunch in one of the busy inns, one reported to have the best menu in all of Bristol. Afterwards, he would buy her candy from a sweet shop and they’d continue to explore the little shops and old churches of the city, something that she was never able to do by herself.

To finish off the evening, he would take her out on one of his father’s smaller ships for supper, where they would sail quietly along the river Avon and enjoy some of their favorite foods. They would snuggle together up on deck and watch the silver moon rise high in the inky night sky. And then they would kiss.

In this stunningly creative debut, Nicole Castroman reimagines the origins of history’s most infamous pirate—Blackbeard—and tells the story of the girl who captured his heart and then broke it, setting him on a path to destruction. When Edward “Teach” Drummond, son of one of Bristol’s richest merchants, returns home from a year at sea, he finds his life in shambles. Betrothed to a girl he doesn’t love and sick of the high society he was born into, all Teach wants is to return to the vast ocean he calls home. There’s just one problem: he must convince his father to let him leave and never come back. Following the death of her parents, Anne Barrett is left penniless. Though she’s barely worked a day in her life, Anne takes a job as a maid in the home of Master Drummond. Lonely days stretch into weeks and Anne longs to escape the confines of her now mundane life. How will she ever achieve her dream of sailing to Curaçao—her mother’s birthplace—when she’s trapped in England? From the moment Teach and Anne meet, they set the world ablaze. Drawn together by a shared desire for freedom, but kept apart by Teach’s father, their love is as passionate as it is forbidden. Faced with an impossible choice, Teach and Anne must decide whether to chase their dreams and leave England forever—or follow their hearts and stay together.

The book sounds really interesting. I really like the way the author added a twist to the story of the pirate Edward Teach or Blackbeard. Personally, I only know him from the Pirates of the Carribean movies XD But I’d really like to read the book 🙂
