Blog Tour: And I Darken by Kiersten White

Blog Tour: And I Darken by Kiersten White

IGAID

Today I’ve got a really awesome post from author of And I Darken, Kiersten White. I fell in love with her writing when I read Illusions of Fate and really can’t wait to read this one (which will be very soon so look out for my review). I love when authors do character profiles, ESPECIALLY when they use kitty gifs, so I hope you guys enjoy this post as much as I do! ♥

When I was considering how to do character profiles for the main characters in And I Darken, I thought: What’s the most era-appropriate way to express who these people are, living in the 1400s in the Ottoman Empire?

GIFs, of course! And, more specifically, CAT GIFs. With no further ado, I give you the cast.

Lada:

1

She may be smaller than her foes, but never doubt her utter fearlessness, rage, and ability to take down anyone in her way. Though many in her life tried to have her declawed, Lada continues to fight. Maybe even when she shouldn’t, or when there is an easier way. And, much like a cat, Lada doesn’t care whether or not anyone likes her. If they serve her purposes, they can stay. Otherwise…

Radu:

1

Poor, snuggly sweetheart just wants love and safety! Is that too much to ask? Well, when Lada is your sister and your father is the threatened prince of an Ottoman vassal state, yes. Yes, it is. Poor kitty. But even the sweetest cats are still clever, and beneath his cuddly exterior is a cunning and subtle mind to balance Lada’s ferocity.

Mehmed:

1

The youngest son of the sultan, Mehmed is brilliant and focused. He will absolutely get what he wants, and never get his paws wet on the path there. Raised to view everyone around him as literally put on earth to serve him, it takes Radu and Lada to make him feel like a real person.

Nicolae:

1

Sure he’s funny, but he’s also useful! He sees the potential in Lada and doesn’t care that she’s a girl. Much like this kitty doesn’t care that he’s not a mop.

Nazira:

1

She’s adorable, sweet, and ready to pounce on any opportunity for happiness. Even if that opportunity is a fake marriage to hide a true love.

Lazar:

1

Radu’s earliest friend and ally, Lazar has a way of popping up at the most unexpected times.

Huma:

1

Mehmed’s mother is sleek, beautiful, and a total predator. Mess with her and the claws come out. Actually, don’t mess with her and they will still probably come out.

Murad:

1

This sultan kitty may be Mehmed’s father, but he’s certainly no one’s dad. Bow to his will or suffer the consequences.

Vlad:

1

Father to Lada and Radu, this slippery monarch will twist, squeeze, and do whatever it takes to keep power. Even if it’s ridiculous—or if it threatens the lives of his children.

So, there you have it! A few of the (many) characters you’ll meet in And I Darken. And here’s my kitty gif in place of a bio:

Please read And I Darken? Love it? Please? PLEASE?

NO ONE EXPECTS A PRINCESS TO BE BRUTAL.

And Lada Dragwlya likes it that way. Ever since she and her gentle younger brother, Radu, were wrenched from their homeland of Wallachia and abandoned by their father to be raised in the Ottoman courts, Lada has known that being ruthless is the key to survival. She and Radu are doomed to act as pawns in a vicious game, an unseen sword hovering over their every move. For the lineage that makes them special also makes them targets.

Lada despises the Ottomans and bides her time, planning her vengeance for the day when she can return to Wallachia and claim her birthright. Radu longs only for a place where he feels safe. And when they meet Mehmed, the defiant and lonely son of the sultan, who’s expected to rule a nation, Radu feels that he’s made a true friend—and Lada wonders if she’s finally found someone worthy of her passion.

But Mehmed is heir to the very empire that Lada has sworn to fight against—and that Radu now considers home. Together, Lada, Radu, and Mehmed form a toxic triangle that strains the bonds of love and loyalty to the breaking point.
