This meme is a way to discuss the books that have made their way to film, or to talk about the books we wish would be made into a movie. You are open to talk about any book out there in any way that you want. For example: Who would you have play the leads in the movie? Who would direct? Animated or live action? Etc.
This week my meme will focus on NOT A DROP TO DRINK by Mindy McGinnis. I imagine a very bleak, subdued movie for this title. An independent company would be best to convey the highly stylized vision I have for this movie. As you can see in my post below, the idea is Into the Wild meets No Country for Old Men… I know, I know, those are two totally different movies, story-wise, but the combination of look and feel is perfect.

Lynn – Zelda WIlliams
Lynn has only ever known a life with her mother. All she has is a pond and a home to protect – at all costs. She is tough, serious and resourceful, and she has a lot to learn about compassion, family and love.
Zelda Williams is the daughter of actor and comedian Robin Williams. Zelda’s acting debut was in the 2004 film House of D, alongside her father. She has not taken very many acting roles, which means this movie would be a fine return to the film screen. She has a special look and strong demeanor that would make the character Lynn come to life on the big screen.
Lauren – Sandra Bullock
Lauren remembers life before the disease and disasters that changed the landscape and life as we know it. She will protect her home and her daughter- even if she has to teach the youngster to shoot first, ask questions later.
Sandra Bullock is a name that anyone would know. She’s starred in numerous popular and award-winning films, such as Speed, While You Were Sleeping, Miss Congeniality, The Blind Side and Gravity. She has sharp attitude and a quick wit as well as an athletic physique that would make the character, Lauren, believable.
Stebbs – Russell Crowe
Stebbs is Lynn and Lauren’s closest neighbor and the first person that Lynn befriends aside from her mother. He walks with a limp, but still manages to get by in a world where strength and agility are key to one’s survival.
Russell Crowe is another big name that would lend some credibility to the film. He is best known for his roles in the films Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, 3:10 to Yuma, Robin Hood, Les Miserables, Man of Steel and Noah. He has a soft, neighborly look to him – and would stand as an ideal “father figure” for Lynn.
Eli – Max Thieriot
Eli is a refugee from one of the supposedly last functioning cities in the country. He, his sister and young niece have traveled far in their fight for survival. Eventually they cross paths with Lynn…
Max Thieriot is another young but hot name in the film and television industries. His career began with the films such as The Pacifier, Nancy Drew and Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. He’s followed up his initial success with roles in the horror films The House at the End of the Street Dark Horse and an ongoing role on the television series Bates Motel. He’s young, boyishly handsome and perfect for the role of Eli.
About Mindy McGinnis
Mindy McGinnis is an assistant YA librarian who lives in Ohio and cans her own food. She graduated from Otterbein University magna cum laude with a BA in English Literature and Religion. Mindy has a pond in her back yard but has never shot anyone, as her morals tend to cloud her vision.
Mindy grew up in the woods, and had a deep desire to see if she could survive out there on her own if the situation ever presented itself. That never happened, and the introduction of the internet has quelled that urge. She loves being a writer, because it’s the only occupation where you can legitimately stare into space and claim to be working.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: The real movies would be lucky to have posters half as lovely as the ones you create. Your posters always perfectly encapsulate the mood and feeling of the original story while simultaneously translating it for a new medium. I can’t say enough about how much I adore the poster you’ve created this week. It’s rough, bleak, chilling and stark, while also remaining strangely beautiful. Your use of typography, in particular, is to die for.
Also: YAY Max Thieriot! I absolutely adore him in Bates Motel and I would love to see his name attached to a large production like this one. I think he’s endlessly talented and while I haven’t read the book in question (it’s currently one of many sitting on my to-be-read bookshelf) it sounds as though he would be perfectly suited to this role!

I loved this book and think it’d look so awesome if it was made into a movie. It’s one of those books that surprised me and I wish that I knew more people who read it. If they were making a movie then I know more people would pick it up! Plus I’d totally watch anything with Max Thieriot in it, so there’s that. xD
